Quadratic functions are all around us, whether we notice them or not!
Q. Where else may you have seen a quadratic function in your environment?
Q. What is the name for the shape of a quadratic function on a graph?
Q. What is the name for the shape of a linear function on a graph?
Here are a few examples:
partner Activity - Marching band or roller coaster
Step 1: Choose whether you would like to construct a pattern for a marching band or a roller coaster.
Step 2: Use a piece of graph paper to design what you chose.
Step 3: Label the parabolas/quadratic functions displayed in your design. (#1, #2, #3, etc.)
Step 4: On the back, write the equation for each parabola in your design.
Step 5: Work on quadratic function practice page.
Step 6: Share your design with the class.
Reminders
1. One design per partner pair.
2. At least 3 parabolas/quadratic functions in your design.
3. Equations on the back for 3 of the parabolas in your design.
4. Organization and neatness.
